September 17 Spotlight Hero

Lizabeth Desmet, Logistics Manager at Helping Women Period

Originally from metro Detroit, Liz moved to the Lansing area to attend Michigan State University, where they studied Music Education and LGBTQ Studies. Their passion for social justice grew as they learned about how our economic system often leaves vulnerable people without access to basic needs like healthy food, affordable and secure housing, and essential items like menstrual products.

Liz currently teaches early childhood music classes for children ages birth to five. While looking for ways to make a broader impact, they discovered Helping Women Period. HWP’s dedication to providing necessary products to all menstruators across Michigan is a mission that resonated with them.

Liz expertly manages inventory, coordinates deliveries, works with volunteers, and oversees social media. With over a year of experience at the organization, they are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to basic health essentials like period products, and they remain passionate in the belief that everyone deserves access to a safe home, healthy foods, and proper healthcare.
